The History of Labor in the Animation Industry (with Stephanie Delazeri)

  • The Pop-Hop 5002 York Boulevard Los Angeles United States (map)

Join animator STEPHANIE DELAZERI as she takes you through the history of the labor struggles, strikes and wage disputes between animation studios and their workers since the inception of the industry (i.e. 1930s to today).

The talk will also address the way studios have manipulated the historiography of this topic in order to disconnect modern animation workers from their history and therefore weaken their collective power. The goal of the talk will be to help people have a better understanding of why animation is still an exploitative industry today, with the hope that by sharing the history of animation labor with both animation workers and audiences, we can strengthen the fight for better wages and working conditions in the industry.
